Improving the usability of Vunked's campervan builder tool
Vunked's founders Alan and Ross came to us for help making their tool more intuitive.
They'd already built an incredibly powerful platform which allowed people to create an entire electrical package to turn their empty van into an electrified camper. But they felt that the tool could be better.
Immediately we started conducting usability tests with a realistic demographic of users for their tool. We split the group between people who weren't electrically-savvy and those who had either done electrical work before or were comfortable with the lingo.
Through five separate recorded user interviews, we identified that the builder was a key friction point, often speaking in technical terms when it should've been more aligned with the users' goals and language.
We set to work on designing a more intuitive builder journey, where the user could share when and where they'll be using their new campervan, and what for. Behind the scenes - based on the answers users gave - the system selected the exact components needed to support their nomadic ambitions.
We delivered a completely refreshed journey which also supported users diving deeper into the technical details if they wanted to, alongside a website refresh.
Alan and Ross are now actioning the changes which will be released in 2026.
